Introduction

This 5-part course distills the knowledge from all the design and marketing experts I interviewed in the Growing Design Podcast plus everything we learned by growing WANDR from a 3-people team, charging less than $1,000 per project, to a seven-figure UX agency.

Initially, this was a 5-day email course I had on my website for a while. I wrote it because I kept seeing freelancers and other agencies make the same mistakes we did over and over again.

Since I don't have a massive following, not many people got to read it and, therefore wasn't very useful.

After giving it some thought, I decided to put it on Medium so more people could find it.

The course is designed to walk you through five actionable steps to shape your UX agency or freelance business’s marketing strategy to attract better-qualified leads.

The Framework

To better understand the content, it's essential that you keep in mind lead generation is the result of combining two critical variables:

Leads = Message x Exposure

The right message, exposed to the right type of eyes, creates interested leads.

Once you have the right message, increasing exposure will increase leads proportionally.

That means you should first define your message. Your message is the value that your business brings to people.

Your message can evolve over time, but it's better to start with one and refine it rather than sitting and waiting for divine inspiration (spoiler alert, it won't arrive if you don't put in the work).

As more people get exposed to your message, you'll gather feedback that will help you sharpen its focus.

Following this principle, I've divided the course into five chapters:

  1. Your Unique Value Proposition
  2. Marketing Gravity
  3. Watering Holes
  4. Warm Introductions
  5. Paid Exposure & Sponsorships

If you have any questions about any of the concepts, send me an email or drop a comment below.

So without further ado, let's dive into part one.

Part One: Your Unique Value Proposition: Your message.
